Carrara Marble Floor Restoration – Keston, Kent

Project Overview

This project involved the restoration and ongoing maintenance of an internal Carrara marble floor within a residential property in Keston, Kent. The work forms part of a five-year annual maintenance contract, ensuring the marble flooring remains level, safe, and visually consistent over time.

The property features a large Carrara marble floor with a decorative Nero Marquina marble border, covering approximately 180m². Movement within the subbase of a newly constructed single-storey extension had caused issues including tile lipping and cracking in the grout joints.

Our team carried out specialist stone restoration work to correct the movement issues, reset affected tiles, and restore the marble floor to a smooth and polished finish.

The Challenge

Movement in the subbase of the newly built extension had caused sections of the marble flooring to shift slightly. This resulted in tile lipping, where adjacent tiles become uneven, and cracking in the grout joints.

The decorative Nero Marquina marble border also required careful removal in certain areas so the affected tiles could be reset correctly. In addition to the internal marble floor, the property’s front porch and garage floor required minor repairs and specialist cleaning.

The challenge was to correct the structural movement issues while preserving the original design and appearance of the marble floor.

The Restoration Process

Removal and Resetting of Marble Border

Our team carefully removed sections of the Nero Marquina marble border to gain access to the affected floor areas. Once the underlying issue was addressed, the stone was reset and aligned to ensure a consistent and level surface.

The decorative border was then reinstalled, maintaining the original design of the flooring.

Diamond Cutting of the Marble Floor

After resetting the affected areas, the entire Carrara marble floor was diamond cut. This process removes lipping between tiles, levels the surface, and eliminates minor imperfections in the stone.

Diamond cutting ensured the entire 180m² floor area had a perfectly smooth and uniform finish.

Marble Floor Polishing

Following the diamond cutting stage, the marble floor was polished to enhance the natural colour and veining of the Carrara marble. The polishing process restored the stone’s elegant finish and improved the overall appearance of the flooring.

Anti-Slip Treatment

To improve safety within the home, a specialist anti-slip treatment was applied to the marble floor. This treatment increases slip resistance while preserving the natural appearance of the stone surface.

Granite Porch Repairs

The front porch featured Nero Assoluto granite, which required repair work where mitred joints had blown. Our team repaired the mitres and restored the granite surface to ensure a durable and visually consistent finish.

Rust Stain Removal

A small rust stain on the garage floor was treated using specialist stone cleaning techniques. The stain was successfully removed without affecting the surrounding surface.
